Snatch! Between Pain and Glory is a sculpture that compresses multiple moments of the Olympic weightlifting move known as the “snatch” into a single human form. I wanted to capture the intensity of that brief moment when pain and pleasure, contraction and release, come together, resulting in a distorted body with multiple heads, arms, and legs. The figure is constructed from wire, hoses, and pipes, held together with cable ties and hot glue. Its surface is only partially covered, leaving the internal structure visible. The faces are collaged from photographs of real weightlifters, focusing on expressions that convey both the strain of lifting and the joy of success.

<Snatch! Between Pain and Glory (스내치! 고통과 영광 사이에서)>는 역도 동작 중 ‘스내치(snatch)’의 여러 순간을 한 인체 안에 중첩시킨 조각이다. 역기를 들어올리는 찰나의 고통과 쾌감, 수축과 팽창의 에너지가 한 덩어리 안에 겹쳐 들어오도록 구성했으며, 그 결과 머리와 팔다리가 여러 개 존재하는 형태가 되었다. 몸체는 철사, 호스, 파이프 등으로 구성하고 케이블타이와 글루건으로 임시 고정했으며, 외피는 부분적으로만 덮여 있어 내부 구조가 그대로 드러난다. 얼굴은 실제 역도 선수들의 표정 사진을 오려 구성했으며, 역기를 들어올릴 때의 고통과 성공 직후의 희열이 동시에 담긴 장면들을 선택했다.
