This collage work incorporates some of the same materials used in Snatch! Between Pain and Glory, reconfiguring commercially consumed images of young women. Venus (Bedroom Goddess) is an homage to Japanese pop artist Amano Takeru’s VENUS in SHINJUKU (2022), drawing attention to how depictions of women, at once innocent and sexually objectified, were created by male artists and achieved significant commercial success.

In Amano Takeru’s original, a woman hides her pale skin behind a pillow while meeting the viewer’s gaze. In my work, her face is replaced by the back of a bald man’s head awaiting surgery, with the eyes removed entirely. A torn condom and the number “6” are added to evoke the impression of a scene just after a sixth sexual encounter.

〈Snatch! Between Pain and Glory〉에서 사용한 일부 재료를 활용한 콜라주 작업으로, 상업적으로 소비되는 젊은 여성 이미지를 변형해 구성했다. 〈Venus (Bedroom Goddess)〉는 일본 팝 아티스트 아마노 타케루의 〈VENUS in SHINJUKU〉(2022)를 오마주한 작품으로, 순수하면서도 성적으로 대상화된 여성상이 남성 작가에 의해 제작되고 상업적으로 큰 성공을 거둔 점에 주목했다.

아마노 타케루의 원작에서 하얀 속살을 베개로 가린 여성은 관객을 응시하지만, 나의 작품에서는 수술을 앞둔 대머리 남성의 뒤통수가 얼굴을 대신하고 눈이 사라진 형태로 나타난다. 여기에 찢어진 콘돔 이미지와 숫자 ‘6’을 더해, 마치 여섯 번째 성행위를 막 마친 듯한 장면을 연상시키도록 했다.
