BIO

Ji Su Kwak is a visual artist based in Seoul, South Korea. She creates figurative sculptures, drawings, and installations using wire, paper, and digital images of the human body. Combining centerless wire structures with fragmented body images, she constructs figures that conceive the body not as a fixed or complete entity, but as something continuously assembled and transformed. Drawing on her experiences of living across diverse cultural environments during childhood, her work explores the body as a site where different identities, temporalities, and states coexist.

Kwak received her MFA in Sculpture from Seoul National University, where she is currently pursuing her doctorate. She earned her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her solo exhibitions include Bedtime Story (WWW SPACE 2, Seoul) and Last Strongholds (Woosuk Gallery, Seoul). She has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Korea and internationally, including Ultra Matrix (Chengdu Contemporary Image Museum, Chengdu, China), Total Recall (Artside Gallery, Seoul), Flüchtige Besetzung (Maxi.Kunst, Nuremberg, Germany), and In-Between States (ACRE Projects, Chicago, USA).

곽지수는 서울을 기반으로 활동하는 시각예술가이다. 철사와 종이, 디지털 이미지를 이용해 인체 조각, 드로잉, 설치 작업을 한다. 중심 없는 철사 구조와 서로 다른 신체 이미지의 파편을 결합해 하나의 몸을 구성하며, 몸을 하나의 완결된 존재가 아니라 끊임없이 구성되고 변화하는 과정으로 탐구한다. 어린 시절 다양한 문화권에서 생활하며 경험한 몸과 정체성에 대한 관심을 바탕으로, 서로 다른 상태와 시간이 한 몸 안에 공존하는 신체를 조각으로 구현하고 있다.

서울대학교 미술대학 조소과에서 석사를 마치고 현재 동 대학원 박사과정에 재학 중이며, 시카고 아트 인스티튜트(School of the Art Institute of Chicago)에서 학부 과정을 졸업했다. 주요 개인전으로 《Bedtime Story》(WWW SPACE 2, 서울), 《Last Strongholds》(우석갤러리, 서울)가 있으며, 《Ultra Matrix》(청두현대이미지미술관, 중국 청두), 《Total Recall》(아트사이드 갤러리, 서울), 《Flüchtige Besetzung》(Maxi.Kunst, 독일 뉘른베르크), 《In-Between States》(ACRE Projects, 미국 시카고) 등 국내외 다수의 단체전에 참여했다.
